paris jackson has surprised fans with two new songs, sharing “the breeze” and “just you and me” on what would have been her father’s birthday.
Released Friday via Republic Records, the two-track surprise arrives just one week after jackson released her sophomore album, HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
Rather than framing the new music as a traditional tribute, jackson says the songs are a deeply personal reflection on love, loss and the complicated experience of growing up connected to one of the most recognizable figures in the world.
“it’s not a tribute. it’s not a commemoration. it’s not a demonstration of any kind. it is a letter. it is a poem of the sonic variety. it is my honest experience — with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one,” she explains.
The release gives listeners another glimpse into jackson’s personal songwriting, which has become a defining part of her work as she continues to establish her own identity as an artist.
The new songs follow HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE, an 11-track album that marked a new chapter for jackson, blending her introspective songwriting with a heavier alternative-rock sound. The album includes “zombies in love,” “teenage drama,” “stitched (on & on)” and the title track, with contributions from songwriters and producers including Linda Perry, Butch Walker and Jason Lader.
Across the album, jackson explores themes of heartbreak, healing and self-discovery while embracing a more dynamic rock-oriented sound.
Now, “the breeze” and “just you and me” add another chapter to that story, one jackson chose to share on a date that carries an obvious personal significance.
For Nashville fans, jackson will support The Pretty Reckless at the Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 3.
