Some collaborations click — and that’s exactly what happens on Wild Rivers’ reimagined version of “Freezing,” now featuring Laci Kaye Booth.
Originally released on the band’s 2024 LP Better Now, “Freezing” was already a hushed, heartfelt track that explored emotional distance with raw honesty. But this updated take somehow feels even more intimate. Booth’s smoky vocals blend seamlessly, adding a rich, haunting harmony that elevates the emotional tension without ever overpowering it. It’s delicate, but powerful.
“In 2022, I was blessed by the TikTok algorithm, which put Laci all over my feed. I became obsessed with her voice, and particularly with her song ‘Cigarettes’. Her songwriting is so strong, and her tone gives such dreamy sincerity and longing to her stories. We’ve always wanted to collaborate with Laci on something, and ‘Freezing’ felt like the perfect song to ask her to lend her voice to,” Wild Rivers’ Devan Glover says. “Laci and Khal both live in Nashville, so they got together to record the verse she had written from her perspective. She sprinkled a perfect dose of Texan heartbreak into the song, and we’re so honored to have her join us on it.”
With this release, Wild Rivers continues to showcase their ability to revisit and reshape their work, giving fans fresh perspectives while staying rooted in emotional truth. “Freezing” may be a song about distance, but this version brings the listener closer than ever.
