Billy Ray Cyrus Joins Lil Nas X for ‘Old Town Road’ Remix

"Country music fans decide what they like. Not critics or anyone else."

It’s only been a week since Lil Nas X’s viral “Old Town Road” was dubbed not country enough for the Billboard country charts. Now, Lil Nas X has made the (already country) song even more country with the help of Billy Ray Cyrus. In the new remix, Cyrus’ vocal talents are heard with some clever lyrics.

“I loved the song the first time I heard it. Country music fans decide what they like. Not critics or anyone else,” Cyrus says matter of factly. “Waylon Jennings once told me every once in a while the industry outlaws someone because they’re different. Country music fans don’t need to be defined by critics. I’ve always said, don’t think inside the box, don’t think outside the box. Think like there is no box. So, I’m honored to collaborate with Lil Nas X on ‘Old Town Road.'”

Cyrus is proud to be on the single and he’s using social media to prove his point. He shared a message from chart data that says the song would have actually been No. 1 on the country charts this week if it had not been removed. When it was taken down, the song was at No. 32.

The song is available for streaming and download now. Check it out by clicking on the Apple Music icon below.
