Music Crush of the Month: Will Payne Harrison Covers ‘Caroline’

0

We’re back with another feature on our Music Crush of the Month, Will Payne Harrison. It was hard to pick a favorite of Harrison’s tracks but there’s something special about “Caroline.”

It’s Harrison’s newest single but it’s actually not an original. It’s a cover of a song originally performed by The Rayo Brothers. The Rayo Brothers are (like Harrison) a mix of sounds — bluegrass, folk, blues, outlaw country and a “little bit of Kanye West.” Like our Music Crush, the brothers are also from Louisiana.

“My new single ‘Caroline’ is a cover of The Rayo Brothers, who were the backing band on my last album Living With Ghosts,” he says when asked about the track. “It reminds me of home in Lafayette, LA. I recorded everything on the track including banjo and all of the layered harmonies, which was a lot of fun for me. I slowed the tempo to give a different somber feel from the original upbeat version.”

You’ll hear the “somber” feeling he’s referring to in the video above. It’s a beautiful song — and it’s beautifully covered by Harrison.
