2017 CMA Awards Beautifully Pay Tribute to Troy Gentry

The country music world was shocked when Montgomery Gentry‘s Troy Gentry died on Sept. 8. On Wednesday night, the 2017 CMA Awards paid tribute to the singer in a beautiful way.

Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts began the tribute — singing the band’s popular, “My Town.” As they started to collaborate on the song, photos of Gentry from over the years flashed on the screen behind them. It became even more beautiful when they showed his wife, Angie, and their teenage daughter, Kaylee. Their eyes were both filled with tears during the precious moment.

According to People, Gentry had promised his daughter she could attend her first award show with her father. Angie upheld the promise for her late husband.

Halfway through the performance, Eddie Montgomery came out to help Bentley and Rascal Flatts finish the song. He assured everyone that him and “T-Roy” would show them around “our town.” Photos of the band continued throughout the end of the song when everyone stood to give Gentry the final goodbye he so deserved.

Stay tuned for the video as it becomes available.
