Trisha Yearwood celebrated 20 years with the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday night.
Opry member and Country Music Hall of Famer, Emmylou Harris, surprised the audience and Yearwood when she took the stage. Harris was there to introduce Yearwood at her momentous celebration.
“From the moment we first heard that stunning voice and saw that beautiful smile, we fell in love with Trisha Yearwood,” Harris began. “She would, of course, become and remain one of the shining stars on the Opry stage or any stage.”
It was then Yearwood’s turn to be front and center on the iconic stage. She donned all black and a necklace that once belonged to another icon, Patsy Cline. The necklace was given to Yearwood by Cline’s family on the night of her Grand Ole Opry induction.
Yearwood then sang “Sweet Dreams,” a song she performed on induction night that had been a hit for both Cline and Harris.
Rick Skaggs, who invited Yearwood to join the Opry at the Ryman back in January of 1999, then took the stage. He joined Yearwood for a duet of “Two Highways” and, along with Harris, presented Yearwood with an Opry 20th anniversary Hatch Print.
Yearwood got another surprise during the evening when the Opry played a video full of congratulatory messages. Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire, Brenda Lee and her husband, Garth Brooks, all sent her well wishes for the special night. Watch the video below.
Following the video, Yearwood introduced Brooks to the audience and the pair sang a duet of “Whiskey to Wine.” While together on stage, he noted that while Yearwood credits Harris as inspiring her career, many young women say the same about his wife.
To conclude the fun-filled evening, Yearwood reflected on her induction 20 years ago. Porter Wagoner inducted her and always told her to “sing the one that brung ya.” That song was “She’s in Love with the Boy,” so it was fitting that she chose that to end her night.
“We’re gonna do this again in 20 years. Count on it!” she told the audience.
