The 1975 stopped by BBC Radio 1 to play their new single for fans — and to share some big news. While there, the band premiered “Give Yourself a Try,” a single that fans have been anxiously waiting for. The release comes after lots of social media teasing.
“Give Yourself a Try” is the first single from their forthcoming album. Spin calls the album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (fka Music For Cars). The album has been speculated on by fans for months. They’ve wondered about the title, the inspiration and when they could expect a release. Today, they finally have some answers.
“I was thinking, ‘Well I’ve always said I want to do three albums and that’s what I’m going to do’,” Matt Healy said on BBC Radio 1 today. “So I kind of set out to do that and then when I started making this record, the primary drive of why I make music — which is because it’s kind of really the only thing that makes me happy. [That] kicked in at such a rate I thought well, ‘I’m not going to stop doing The 1975 now. I’m not going to do three albums.’ I’m going to do loads of albums, not so many that we spoil it but I’m not stopping making records now because I just couldn’t bear the idea of it.”
“So I thought right, ‘Well Music for Cars is going to be an era then. It’s going to be a time when we put out a collection of music.’ So it starts with two albums.”
That’s right. The band is releasing not one, but two albums associated with this so-called era. Hear Healy talk about it in the clip below.
