The Swon Brothers Chat ‘What Ever Happened,’ New Direction for Music

Nashville Noise caught up with The Swon Brothers recently to chat about their new single, “What Ever Happened” and what’s to come in 2018.

“What Ever Happened” is the duo’s newest single. It’s fun and upbeat with an 80s vibe but the lyrics pack a punch.

“If you listen to the lyrics of the song, it’s a heavy song but it also makes you wanna dance,” Colton explains “It was kind of like music therapy for us ‘cause we were talking about just the good ole days and how you didn’t have to worry about people shooting people at concerts and movie theaters — and racism. All these different things that still exist and it’s like, ‘Man, I miss the good ole days.’ That’s what the song is about but also you’re gonna dance to it.”

Zach agreed with his brother’s description adding, “When artists, in general, express themselves via writing songs, that’s just a natural process so when you’re talking about these things… why not uplift people too? It’s got a nice little groove to it.”

When the brothers sat down at their home studio, they didn’t intend on writing the song. They didn’t intend to write a song at all. It all started with a conversation and, in less than an hour, “What Ever Happened” was born.

This is just the beginning of what’s to come for The Swon Brothers in 2018. They’re working on new music and are excited for the rest of the year.

“I think we’re always working on a new album, I think every artist is. We’re writing, we’re producing new stuff. It’s fun,” Colton says. “This song is kind of a new side of us and it just kind of let us know not to put rules on our music. Let’s not put ourselves in a box. Let’s just create. If people love it, great. If they don’t, let’s do something else and see what they like but keep putting it out there. I’m really excited what this year has for us.”
