Shawn Mendes may be a pop sensation now but a few years ago he was just a teen covering other people’s songs online. Remember when he covered this Hunter Hayes hit?
Let’s start from the beginning. It was only a few years ago when Mendes was a kid making cover videos. In fact, the Canadian singer-songwriter first rose to fame on Vine. Back in 2013, he developed quite a following on the social media site. His videos got so popular that record labels came calling. Fast forward to today and he’s headlining arenas and releasing No. 1 albums. Now, he has an even bigger following.
He’s come a long way in just a few years but we want to take it back a little — back to the early days. Back to when Mendes was a 14-year-old kid with a guitar and a YouTube channel. He took to his page to release a simple cover of “Wanted” in early 2013.
“I really like this song and have got a lot of requests on it,” he wrote with the video. “Sorry for me looking like I’m combined with the door, probably shouldn’t of wore a white shirt, lol.”
