Two rock icons took over Bridgestone Arena on Saturday night, and if you didn’t walk out with a raspy voice and a full heart, were you even there?
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts kicked the night off with a bang, blazing through a set that reminded everyone why she’s still the queen of rock. From “Bad Reputation” to “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” Jett’s snarl and swagger are as sharp as ever. Her presence was electric, her band tight, and the crowd more than ready to follow her lead.
Then came Billy Idol. The moment the lights dropped and those first notes rang out, the energy in Bridgestone hit a new level and never let up. Idol took the stage just after 9 PM, launching into a hit-filled set that was equally nostalgic and thrilling. With Steve Stevens shredding beside him (and eventually rocking TWO incredible guitar solos), Idol powered through newer songs and classics.
What stood out most, besides that unmistakable voice, is Idol’s energy. The man is 69 and performing with more fire than some artists half his age. He connected with the crowd like an old friend. The vibe was pure joy, from longtime fans reliving the soundtrack of their youth to younger faces soaking up rock history in real time. It truly was a show for all ages, and everyone was on their feet.
