The 10 Best Randy Travis Lyrics

There are many of Randy Travis’ songs that will go down in country — and music — history. Having that many special songs makes it hard to pick a favorite, so we focused on just his lyrics.

After facing a ton of rejection in his early days in Nashville, Travis recorded an independent album. The record, Live at the Nashville Palace, helped him land a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. In 1985 he released “On the Other Hand,” a remake of the Keith Whitley original. The next year he re-released it and it became his first No. 1 single.

Travis has had more than 20 No. 1 singles over the years including “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Deeper Than the Holler.” His fans have stood by him through thick and thin and his biggest hits are still country favorites to this day. He’s had some amazing songs but what were his most standout lyrics? We’re breaking down our favorites.

The 10 Best Randy Travis Lyrics:

“You say the grass is greener on the other side, from where I stand I can’t see grass at all. / And the concrete and the steel won’t change the way you feel, it takes more than caviar to have a ball.” – “Better Class of Losers”

“My heart’s on a roll, I’m easy in my soul. / There’s no hurry, no worry, things are goin’ my way.” – “Honky Tonk Moon”

“But on the other hand, There’s a golden band to remind of someone who would not understand. / On one hand I could stay and be your loving man but the reason I must go is on the other hand.” – “On the Other Hand”

“I’m diggin’ up bones, I’m diggin’ up bones. / Exhuming things that’s better left alone and I’m resurrecting memories of a love that’s dead and gone. / Tonight I’m sittin’ alone, diggin’ up bones.” – “Diggin’ Up Bones”

“My love is deeper than the holler, stronger than the rivers, /Higher than the pine trees growin’ tall upon the hill, / My love is purer than the snowflakes that fall in late December, / And honest as a robin on a springtime window sill, / And longer than the song of the whippoorwill.” – “Deeper than the Holler”

“It’s been so long since you walked out my door, / Now you’re just an old song nobody sings anymore.” – “Too Gone Too Long”

“As sure as I live this love that I give is gonna be yours until the day that I die.” – “Forever and Ever, Amen”

“Are you telling me that you’ve never seen an angel? / Never felt the presence of one standing by? / No robe of white, no halo in site. / Well you missed the most obvious thing, / Man, are you blind? /Just look in your mother’s eyes.” – “Angels”

“And I swear I’m never gonna be untrue, / ‘Cause I wouldn’t have nothing if I didn’t have you.” – “If I Didn’t Have You”

“Operator, please connect with 1982, I need to make apologies for what I didn’t do. / I sure do need to tell her that I’ve thought the whole thing through / And now it’s clear that she is what I what I should have held on to.”  – “1982”
