Queen Bees is a film set at the Pine Grove Senior Community. The senior center is cutthroat with widows staking their claim on their male counterparts and battling it out in ruthless bridge games. Take the movie Mean Girls and put it in a retirement home and that’s Queen Bees.
I had the pleasure of chatting with two of the film stars, Ann-Margret and Loretta Devine. One of the things that stood out in my conversation with Ann-Margret was addressing the lack of representation of her age group in film. Hollywood tends to showcase older individuals in a specific light. But Queen Bees doesn’t. Donald Martin (writer) showcases that no matter our age, we can still find new friends, find new hobbies — and maybe even a new love.
Queen Bees is one of the funniest movies you will watch all year. It’s in select theaters and on VOD today.
