Photos: John Mellencamp at Nashville’s Historic Ryman Auditorium

John Mellencamp played three nights at the Ryman Auditorium for his Live and In Person 2023 tour. We were there for night three and it was a “Wild Night” indeed.

After a lengthy film of old movie clips played, Mellencamp came onstage for an extraordinary evening. He even introduced himself to the crowd, which got a raucous applause from the Music City audience.

“Good evening,” he said. “I’m John Mellencamp.”

Mellencamp spoke to the crowd like we were all old friends, not at all like an iconic singer known for his heartland rock hits. “Came all the way down from Bloomington, Indiana,” he said casually. “I’m going to be playing some old stuff and new stuff tonight.” And that’s just what he did.

The 71-year-old played songs including “John Cockers,” “Small Town,” “Jackie Brown,” “Longest Days,” “Jack & Diane” and “Pink Houses.” It was a night we’ll never forget. Check out more images from the set below.
