Nashville’s Pet Community Center recently celebrated a major milestone in its campaign to prevent pet overpopulation: 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries in three years, completed by Dr. April Pinelli.
Pet Community Center’s Medical Director, Dr. April Pinelli, with the help of her surgical team, recently successfully completed her 10,000th spay/neuter surgery in less than three years.
Brandon Dyce, President/CEO of Pet Community Center, stated: “We are so proud to announce this incredibly important milestone. The work of Dr. Pinelli and her team has made a monumental difference in our work to prevent pet overpopulation: based on conservative statistics, Dr. Pinelli and her team have prevented 20,000-30,000 unwanted pets in this community alone. That is 20,000-30,000 pets that will not face an uncertain future; put an unnecessary strain on shelters, rescue organizations, and agencies such as Metro Animal Care and Control; and will not continue the cycle of pet overpopulation.”
Dyce added that Dr. Pinelli, a veterinarian who, along with her team, is specially trained in high-quality/high-volume veterinary care and surgical techniques, has made a measurable difference in expanding access to high-quality veterinary care. Last year alone, Pet Community Center performed nearly 7,000 spay/neuter surgeries and provided over 9,200 pets with low-cost vaccinations and preventive care. And given that Pet Community Center’s services are offered on a sliding scale so that financial barriers are removed for pets and the people who love them, the organization provided over $466,000 in free medical care as well.
Pet Community Center is open Monday through Friday. All services are by appointment and can be booked online. For families receiving any form of financial assistance, spay/neuter surgeries are $15 through the organization’s Spay/Neuter Assistance Program.
