Oct. 9: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content has dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

    Redbox

    The Tax Collector (Oct. 9)

Shia LeBeouf stars in this crime thriller. In it, the “Tax Collector” working for a crime lord finds his family’s safety in jeopardy when an old rival shows up. Check out the full review here.

    The 2nd (Oct. 6)

Ryan Phillippe stars in this one about a Secret Service agent who has to save his son, and a Supreme Court justice’s daughter, from terrorists.

    Netflix

    Hubie Halloween (Oct. 7)

According to Netflix, “Hubie’s not the most popular guy in Salem, Mass. but when Halloween turns truly spooky, this good-hearted scaredy-cat sets out to keep his town safe.”

    The 40-Year-Old Version (Oct. 9)

According to Netflix, “Desperate for a breakthrough as she nears the big 4-0, struggling New York City playwright Radha finds inspiration by reinventing herself as a rapper.”

The Haunting of Bly Manor (Oct. 9)

The highly-anticipated The Haunting of Bly Manor is finally out! It’s from the same creator as the very popular (and very spooky) The Haunting of Hill House. Netflix describes it as a gothic romance where “dead doesn’t mean gone. An au pair plunges into an abyss of chilling secrets.”

    VOD

The Devil to Pay (Oct. 6)

When a struggling farmer’s husband disappears, she must fight to save her son. Read the full review here.

    Hulu

    Books of Blood (Oct. 5)

Hulu describes this original as “a journey into uncharted territory through three tales tangled in space and time.” Read my full review here.

    Helstrom (Oct. 9)

This superhero TV show is a series created for Hulu by Paul Zbyszewski. Hulu describes their show as, “Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.”

Ricky Valero is a host of the Music City Drive-In podcast. Listen to it on your favorite streaming platforms and follow their website for more movie and TV news.
