If you spend a lot of time on social media, you may think of TikTok when you hear the name Noah Schnacky. His name could also be synonymous with Instagram or even YouTube. Not only is the 23-year-old a social media star, he’s also making a name for himself in the music business. And he’s having a huge year.
His single, “I’ll Be the One,” received an impressive 14 million streams and, now, his debut EP is out on Big Machine Records. Recently, Nashville Noise‘s Coti Howell got a few minutes to know the guy behind the music.
Nashville Noise: Let’s start with your social media music presence. You basically got your start by recording cover songs and uploading them. How did you decide you wanted to get your voice heard that way?
Noah Schnacky: I’ve always loved creating my own versions of the music that inspires me. I really started posting them because I enjoyed it. Before I knew it, people were sharing the covers I did with their friends and it’s all history from there.
NN: You’ve also been a huge hit on TikTok — with over 3 million followers! That’s insane! Why do you think people are identifying so well with your short-form videos?
NS: Honestly, I wish I could tell you I knew exactly why but I don’t [know]. I’m just myself in the videos having fun and expressing my personality and what I love. I’m just grateful that they are connecting.
NN: Then you caught the eye of none other than Mr. Scott Borchetta. Tell me how that happened and how you two developed a working relationship.
NS: I’ve always looked up to Scott as a music business entrepreneur. I released my first two songs independently and the success they garnered caught his attention and led to my record deal. It’s not all business though. We share a common passion of fast cars and I recently traveled with Scott to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over Fourth of July weekend to sing the National Anthem and enjoy a day racing.
NN: Since signing with Big Machine Records, you’ve released singles and now, your debut EP is out. How would you describe the EP as a whole?
NS: The EP is really who I am at this point in my life. It covers love, loss and my hope for my future. I wanted to paint a full picture of who I am with the EP. Every song is so unique and essential to that picture.
NN: Have fans been gravitating towards one song in particular on the EP?
NS: We’ve seen an incredible response to so many but “Meet the Man” is the one to watch. Its message has been resonating with my fans like never before. We’ve received thousands of DMs about how that song has impacted them and seen so many powerful videos created with it already.
NN: I also love the idea you had prior to your EP – you launched a Cyber Date initiative. How did that idea come about and how did it pan out?
NS: Honestly, I’ll use anything as an excuse to get to know my fans in a more personal way. I want to be involved with the people who are involved with me, and I want to believe in the people who believe in me. I’ve done 3 so far and it’s been incredible getting to know them over a nice meal. I’ve got my next one scheduled this week so I guess you could say it’s been amazing.
NN: Lastly, what advice do you have for aspiring artists who are inspired by you and how you approached your music start?
NS: You have to go all in. You can do anything you put your heart and mind to. You also have to recognize that I said YOU. Nobody can do your job for you and it’s up to you to make it happen. So take full ownership and control of your life and use every moment of it.
