Icelandic indie-folk legends Of Monsters and Men just made our Thursday so much better with the release of a brand-new song, and it’s just the beginning.
The self-produced single, “Ordinary Creature,” dropped today (Aug. 7), marking the band’s first new music in a while and offering that dreamy, emotional indie-folk sound they do so well. The song was written and recorded during a summer night in Iceland. It hits that perfect bittersweet sweet spot between comfort and longing — something they’ve always mastered.
“Ordinary Creature is about the feeling of yearning for that someone that brings you comfort,” the band explains. “It’s about when you start feeling better after a period of not feeling so great. That moment when you start coming back to yourself again and remembering what it’s like to be an ordinary creature.”
The music video, directed by Erlendur Sveinsson, brings the vibe full circle. It follows the band through the quiet streets of the tiny Icelandic town of Selvogur, capturing those dreamy golden hours of summer night into early morning.
New Album Coming This Fall
Along with the single, the band announced their first full-length album in six years — All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade, set for release on Oct. 17. Deeply introspective and full of texture, the album explores the beautiful paradox of joy and sorrow, love and pain.
