Mitchell Tenpenny’s This is the Heavy album drops Sept. 16 and includes 20 songs, all of which he co-wrote. He also co-produced it alongside Jordan M. Schmidt.
Tenpenny’s album got the name from its sound (which he jokingly describes as “farm emo”) and the heaviness of the lyrics. This is a different version of the singer. He’s grown up and the lyrics show that. So does the rockin’ sound.
“It’s big. It’s loud. It’s in your face and drum heavy,” Mitchell said of the record’s sound. The project finds its own lane between a little bit country, and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, and is without a doubt meant to be turned up.”
