Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.
Belcourt
New Order (Nuevo order)
IMDB: “A lavish high-society wedding unexpectedly turns into a class struggle that leads to a violent coup.”
Redbox
The Father
I first saw The Father during AFI Fest and this movie wrecked me — in the best way. Anthony Hopkins plays Anthony, a man battling dementia who is too prideful to ask for help. This was, hands down, my favorite film of 2020 and it’s hitting theaters just in time for Oscar season. Check it out and watch my interview with director Florian Zeller here.
Netflix
Army of the Dead
IMDB: “Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.”
Amazon Prime
The Underground Railroad
The groundbreaking new series from Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins tackles slavery in the deep south in a way we have not seen on screen yet. The series is informative and needs to be seen by everyone.
VOD
Sound of Violence
I saw this as a part of the SXSW Film Festival and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It is one of the most creative horror-style films that I have seen in a long time. Jasmin-Savoy Brown is an absolute star in this movie. This one is a must-see!
