Matt Stell is a college basketball player turned country singer and he’s got a brand new EP out. Everywhere But On just dropped today and Stell calls it a “very pregnant” EP.
Nashville Noise sat down with Stell, who opened up about teaching himself to play guitar when he was still in college. Because he couldn’t go home during breaks (since he was playing college ball), he had to keep himself busy somehow. He sat down with the guitar and the rest is history. Long story short: he is not afraid of hard work.
“I’m more afraid of boredom than handwork, I guess,” he admits.
Stell recently released his “Prayed for You,” and the song is climbing the charts. It’s a track he wrote with two of his best music friends — Allison Veltz and Ash Bowers. Although it’s about a relationship, it’s ultimately about more than that.
“Really what we’re getting at is that kind of, if you stick with it, you give a chance for good things to happen.”
“Prayed for You” is one of seven songs on Stell’s new EP, that’s available everywhere today. The EP also includes the title track, “Everywhere But On,” and a collaboration with Jimmie Allen.
“I can at the end of the day stand behind that EP and just be like, ‘You know I wrote all these and I meant this.’ That’s a good feeling.”
