Matt Costa has a lot to celebrate! He just released a new album and he’s performing at 3rd and Lindsley in support of the new record.
On Nov. 18, Costa is headlining the Nashville venue with Tennis supporting him. The show is his last stop on the tour that celebrates his new record, Santa Rosa Fangs. This is the singer-songwriter’s first full length album in five years and fans can’t get enough of the new tunes.
The record was released in May but a new Novella edition is hot off the presses. This edition features new narration, never-before-heard b-sides and interstitial tracks from Costa. When the California native set out to create this record, he didn’t set out with a theme in mind. Instead, he noticed one as he began putting the album together.
“I’ve interwoven my own stories into a fictional idea of what Santa Rosa Fangs is, from my own time spent living in Northern and Southern California and years driving up and down the coast, seeing the landscape and where life can pull you within one state,” he says. “It’s the characters’ story and my story, too, contemporary but still tortured by the past. It’s a window into a time period but spoken as if it’s the present. The beauty of love and loss doesn’t have a date on it; it’s timeless.”
Costa has come a long way with this record, especially since he had a completely different idea for his life in the early 2000s. Back then, he was on his path to becoming a professional skateboarder. Fate had another idea. Costa suffered a serious injury and shifted his focus to songwriting. An early demo found its way to No Doubt’s Tom Dumont, who ended up producing Costa’s early recordings. The rest, as they say, is history.
Check out Costa’s live show in support of Santa Rosa Fangs on Nov. 18 at 3rd and Lindsley. Tickets are available now for $18. Doors for the show open at 6 PM with the music starting at 8 PM.
