March 12: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

In Theaters

The Father

I saw The Father as a part of AFI Fest back in October of last year and this movie was absolutely gut-wrenching — in the best way. Anthony Hopkins plays Anthony, a man battling dementia who is too prideful to ask for help. This was, hands down, my favorite film of 2020 and it’s hitting theaters just in time for Oscar season. Check it out and watch my interview with director Florian Zeller here.

Netflix

Yes Day

Jennifer Garner is back and I am here for it. She plays Allison alongside Edgar Ramirez, who stars as her husband, Carlos. The hardworking couple spends so much time at work that they feel like they aren’t getting enough time with their kids. They give the kids the keys to the house for 24 straight hours and they can’t say no.

Marriage or Mortgage

Netflix: “A wedding planner and a real estate agent compete to win the hearts and budgets of spouses-to-be. Will they pick fairy-tale nuptials or a dream home?” You’ll see a lot of Nashville in this one, too.

Redbox

Vanguard

Are you looking for something over-the-top, crazy and full of action? Vanguard is that movie for you this weekend. Jackie Chan is in the saddle as Tang, head of a security company. He puts on a display with his acrobatic martial arts ability as he takes down the villain once again.

Hulu

Kid 90

Hulu: “As a teenager in the 90s, Soleil Moon Frye carried a video camera everywhere she went documenting her group of friends as they grew up in Hollywood and New York City.”

HBO Max

Speed

Here’s another throwback for ya! Speed is one of my all-time favorites. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock make for a dynamic pairing in this action-packed bus ride that leaves you on the edge of your seat. While I am a big fan of the pair, Dennis Hopper is perfect as the antagonist. It’s out on HBO Max now.
