If you’ve ever found yourself planning a trip around trying one of Levain Bakery’s famously giant cookies, your days of waiting are almost over.
The beloved New York City bakery is making its way to Nashville, bringing its legendary cookies to the heart of 12 South. Levain Bakery will open at 2901 12th Ave. S., taking over the former Burger Up space. An opening date has not yet been announced.
Founded in New York City in 1995, Levain has built a devoted following thanks to its signature cookies. They’re crispy on the outside and irresistibly gooey in the center. Fan favorites like the Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin have become destination-worthy treats, drawing long lines at bakery locations across the country.
But cookies are only part of what Nashville can expect.
The new bakery will also serve freshly baked pastries, artisanal breads, loaf cakes, sandwiches made on house-baked baguettes, along with hot and iced coffee, teas, and seasonal specials. Whether you’re stopping in for a morning coffee or satisfying an afternoon sweet tooth, it sounds like it’ll be the kind of neighborhood spot you’ll want to visit again and again.
The move has been years in the making. Levain spent more than four years searching for the right Nashville location before landing on the longtime Burger Up space in 12 South. Rather than simply opening another bakery, the team says they hope to continue that sense of community while becoming part of the neighborhood themselves.
That commitment extends beyond fresh-baked cookies. Levain plans to hire locally, partner with community organizations, and donate proceeds from its opening day to a Nashville nonprofit, with more details expected closer to opening.
