The 2018 BBMAs started with Kelly Clarkson making a powerful statement. Instead of doing a moment of silence, she asked for a “moment of action.”
The 2018 Billboard Music Awards started with a very serious moment. Clarkson cold opened the show with tears in her eyes. The Texas native was ready to talk about gun control and the Santa Fe school shooting.
“Once again we are grieving for more kids that have died for absolute no reason at all,” she said as tears rolled down her face. Clarkson apologized for crying and stopped multiple times to collect herself.
She was asked to do a moment of silence to start the award show. Clarkson said that moments of silence weren’t doing anything and, frankly, she’s tired of them. She said that she wants change saying that parents should be able to send their kids out without worrying about them getting shot.
“Let’s have a moment of action,” Clarkson said while calling on people to start in their communities. Watch a clip of the powerful moment below.
