Justin Moore’s ‘Late Nights and Longnecks’ is Pure, Traditional Country

Justin Moore‘s forthcoming album is his most traditional to date. Late Nights and Longnecks drops April 26 via The Valory Music Co.

This album is a platform for Moore’s powerful storytelling and beautiful voice and includes an all-star band. Grammy Award-winning guitarist Brent Mason leads the band along with ACM Award-winning pedal steel player Paul Franklin. It’s a throwback to the traditional country that fans of artists like George Strait and Alan Jackson will adore.

“I’ve never worked with those guys [Mason and Franklin] before, but they’ve played on some of my favorite albums of all time,” Moore explains. “We thought it would be really cool to bring them in and record the whole thing at The Castle, this historic studio just south of Nashville where a lot of those legendary hit records were made.”

With this album, Moore nodded to the country legends he idolized (Dwight Yoakam, Keith Whitley) and simple themes like home, family and tradition.

Late Nights and Longnecks also includes alcohol as a companion on the album. It’s not partying songs though, it shows characters and their relationships with alcohol. Sometimes that relationship is alcohol as a medication (“Never Gonna Drink Again”); sometimes it’s an escape (“Airport Bar”); sometimes it’s a memory you wish you didn’t have (“Jesus and Jack Daniels”).

Don’t worry, the album is so much more than a few songs with underlying themes of alcohol. There’s also “That’s My Boy,” which explores a relationship with a dad and son. “Small Town Street Cred” celebrates the joys of small-town life and “The Ones That Didn’t Make it Back Home” honors people who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice to make the world a little bit brighter.

According to a release, the album is all about a desire for both comfort and connection no matter where the album’s characters find it. Sometimes, those characters don’t find it all. The commonality on Late Nights and Longnecks is the search for it.

The record drops April 26 and, if that’s too long of a wait, you can follow us on Instagram. We’ll have some more details about the record coming in the next few days.
