Justin Bieber shared an Instagram post from his heart on Monday (Sept. 2). In it, he details his troubled past including drug and relationship abuse.
“Hope you find time to read this it’s from my heart,” Bieber wrote along with the lengthy letter to his 118 million IG followers. In the letter, he shares how his early fame and unstable home life led him to make some decisions he’s not proud of.
“It’s hard to get out of bed in the morning with the right attitude when you are overwhelmed with your life, your past, job, responsibilities, emotions, your family, finances, your relationships,” he bravely begins. “Sometimes it can get to the point where you don’t even want to live anymore. Where you feel like it’s never going to change.”
“I went from a 13-year-old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world… Everyone did everything for me so I never had the fundamentals of responsibility… By 20, I made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from being one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world.”
“I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships,” the “Sorry” singer says. “I became distant to everyone who loved me and I was hiding behind a shell of a person that I had become… It’s taken me years to bounce back from all of these terrible decisions, [to] fix [my] broken relationships and [to] change relationship habits.”
The 25-year-old’s candid post ended with a positive message to anyone else that’s feeling a similar struggle.
“All this to say even when the odds are against you, keep fighting.”
