Sundance 2021 Summer Soul
Film & TV Lists

July 2: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

Belcourt

Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

I remember watching this at Sundance Film Festival and getting frustrated that it took so long for me to hear about this incredible story. In Questlove’s directorial debut, he captures how one summer day in Harlem brought together an entire community. This is a must see!

Zola

We knew the day would come when we got a movie based on a Twitter thread — and that day has arrived. Taylour Paige and Riley Keough star in this movie based on the infamous Twitter thread from Aziah Wells King.

In Theaters

The Forever Purge

The latest installment of the Purge franchise is out now! After so many years of purging on just one night, a group of people seeks to bring purging back — on a daily basis. Want more? Check out my full review.

Prime Video

The Tomorrow War

IMDB: “A family man is drafted to fight in a future war where the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront the past.”

Redbox

The Paper Tigers

The Paper Tigers is perfect for action movie lovers. Three martial artists seek out to avenge the death of their teacher. This movie had some of the best martial arts choreography that I’ve seen in a long time.
