John Legend Makes History with EGOT Status

John Legend won an Emmy on Sunday night. That win made him the first black man, and the youngest person, to earn EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) status!

On Sunday night, Legend took home an Emmy Award along with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for producing the best variety special winner, “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.”

At 39 years old, Legend is the youngest person to ever win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony! He’s also the first black man to ever do so. He made history twice with just one win.

Rightfully so, Legend celebrated his win on Instagram.

“Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories,” he captioned his photo. “Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar. So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air.”

Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, also took to social media to celebrate her husband. “My incredible man. What a surreal life,” she wrote.

Hours after his win, the two were back home celebrating with breakfast. Teigen shared an adorable photo of Legend making “Egot pancakes” this morning for breakfast.
