On the heels of her Broadway record, Always Like New, Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles is joining the cast of Waitress as Jenna Hunterson. Throughout the week, the Waitress Instagram has been dropping clues as to who the next Jenna would be with hints like, “Georgia Peach Pie” and “Lazy Drive Me Crazy Pie.” Nettles will begin performances on Oct. 19 and conclude on Nov. 24.
Nettles stopped by TODAY to surprise Hoda and Jenna with the news of her role and the cherry on top – a pie! Watch that clip below.
Nettles also spoke exclusively to People.com about the role saying, “There are so many layers to Waitress that make it so meaningful to me. It is heart-warming, heart-breaking at times, and absolutely heart-inspiring. I’m thrilled to be able to finally get to wear the apron.”
