Jan. 1: What to Watch This Weekend

Between movie theaters, VOD, Redbox, Netflix and the rest of the streaming platforms, a lot of content dropped this week. I went through and found some of the best options you can watch this weekend.

    Redbox

    Honest Thief

IMDB describes this action flick as: “Wanting to lead an honest life, a notorious bank robber turns himself in, only to be double-crossed by two ruthless FBI agents.”

    The War with Grandpa

In this family comedy, a kid realizes he has to start sharing a bedroom with his recently widowed grandpa. To get it back, he wages a full on war — with pranks.

    Netflix

    Death to 2020

“As the year we all want to end finally does, take a look back at 2020’s mad glory in this comedic retrospective from the creators of Black Mirror.” This dark comedy stars Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant and Lisa Kudrow and is now on Netflix.

    Bridgerton (Season 1)

If you haven’t already heard of Bridgerton, you’ve likely been off social media for a few days. The show is creating a huge buzz with viewers either really loving it — or really hating it. Netflix describes the show as, “The eight close-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family look for love and happiness in London high society. Inspired by Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels.”

    VOD

    The Last Shift

“The Last Shift is an American story about two men struggling in the same town, while worlds apart. Stanley (Richard Jenkins), an aging fast-food worker, plans to call it quits after 38 years on the graveyard shift at Oscar’s Chicken and Fish.” The Sony Picture was written and directed by Andrew Cohn.

    Amazon

    Yearly Departed

Yearly Departed is a 1-hour comedy special hosted by Phoebe Robinson starring Rachel Brosnahan, Tiffany Haddish, Patti Harrison, Natasha Leggero, Sarah Silverman, Natasha Rothwell and Ziwe.
