Metallica’s James Hetfield Lands First Acting Gig in ‘Extremely Wicked’

Metallica‘s James Hetfield is headed for the big screen. The musician landed his first acting gig in the Ted Bundy biopic, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

Deadline reported the news that Hetfield scored his first acting role earlier this week. They announced that the musician would play Officer Bob Hayward, calling him a “no-nonsense Utah highway patrol veteran.” Hetfield has graced television and larger screens in the past but this is his first time playing someone other than himself.

Joe Berlinger directs Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile and it stars Zac Efron as Bundy himself. The star-studded cast also includes Lily Collins, John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Haley Joel Osment and many more.

Berlinger has been giving fans glimpses at the film through his Instagram account. While we’ve seen photos of Efron as the very creepy Bundy, we now get to see Hetfield as the police officer. He posted a behind-the-scenes image of Hetfield with Efron writing that this was his “first dramatic role.”

“Having spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes with James and the rest of Metallica, I have experienced his charisma and powerful presence close up,” Berlinger says in a statement (quote via Deadline). “It seemed only natural that he would bring that same power and magnetism to a dramatic role, so when he agreed to my pitch that he be in the movie, I was thrilled.”

Fans also seem pretty thrilled by the role — judging by Berlinger’s Instagram comments. How do you feel about Hetfield in a movie? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us and stay tuned for more film news as it’s available.
