The dates for the International Black FIlm Festival of Nashville are set for 2017. This year, they’re celebrating 11 years!
The IBFF’s 2017 event happens Oct. 5 through Oct. 8 in Music City at various locations. They’ll have a ton of events including luncheons, breakfast presentations and even comedy shows but opening night is really something special.
That evening, they’ll show the highly-anticipated feature, Marshall. Marshall has a release date of Oct. 13 and features Chadwick Boseman as Thurgood Marshall. IMDB summarizes the film as being, “About a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases.”
The film screens at 7:30PM at The Johnson on Belmont’s campus. Immediately following, they’ll host a live Skype Q&A with the director, Reginald Hudlin.
That exciting evening is just the beginning of the four-day International Black Film Festival of Nashville event. They’ll give festivalgoers a taste of every side of the film industry and will showcase filmmakers from all over the world. Some of the films that will screen won’t even be out to the public yet — including Marshall. There will also be workshops, master classes and industry parties.
“We are excited to have such an amazing lineup for the 2017 festival,” founder Hazel Joyner Smith says. “We are expecting filmmakers and patrons from all over the world to touchdown in Nashville in just a couple of weeks. Screening the highly anticipated feature film ‘Marshall’ as the Opening Night Film is a special honor, as Justice Thurgood Marshall did significant work right here in Nashville for the local office of the NAACP as well as at the prestigious Fisk University.”
