Hadley Park’s Music Video Brings Awareness to Childhood Cancer

Hadley Park are bringing attention to childhood cancer this month with the video for “Things I’ve Learned.” It features a special kid — who is also a co-writer on the track.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month so what better time for Hadley Park to revisit an older video? The duo, Morgan Leigh Garner and Courtney Dashe, released the visual back in 2015 and the song has a really special story behind it.

“‘Things I’ve Learned'” is about seeing the good in a really bad situation — from the perspective of a nine-year-old boy. True story: Kaleb was diagnosed with Leukemia at six. After being ‘cured,’ it came back with a vengeance at age nine,” Garner, who is also Kaleb’s aunt, tells us. “Kaleb stars in the video and was not only the inspiration but also co-writer of this raw and honest song.”

When Kaleb was first diagnosed, his mom wrote a blog post using his feelings about his diagnosis. When Hadley Park read it, they knew they had to make it a song. Once they recorded it and put it on iTunes, they drove to surprise him with a performance of it. Kaleb is now officially a songwriter in his own right — and he’s helping the duo raise awareness.

“He is also the reason we have made it our mission to raise money for childhood cancer research. These children are out future and our future is dying because of this disease and of outdated and aggressive cancer treatments.”

Watch the video above and, if you feel moved, consider donating to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, a nationwide children’s cancer research organization that Hadley Park have partnered with. Also stay tuned to Netflix’s The Ranch, the song will be featured in the comedy soon.
