Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, took to YouTube to address their fans directly following the tragic death of their three-year-old son, River Kelly. In the emotional video, they tell fans how they’ve been holding up during this difficult time.

“We’ve been a little dark on social media,” Amber starts. “We’ve been with our family these past couple weeks… We’re receiving the outpouring of love that you guys have given us these past couple weeks and we just wanted to say thank you.”

Granger then takes over explaining how nervous he is to talk about this on video. On that day, the 39-year-old was doing gymnastic’s with the couple’s daughter, London. While he was doing that, his two sons, River and five-year-old Lincoln Monarch, were playing with water guns.

“I remember thinking, I was looking at London, and as she was doing gymnastics I thought, ‘Soak up this moment.’ I just had this thought, ‘Soak up this moment because it’s not going to last forever’,” Granger says.

“Somewhere between 30 seconds and three minutes, we don’t know, Amber and I are inside our pool gate doing CPR on our son. I think the platform that we immediately stand for is: Love those close to you. Soak up those moments. Live for today. Live in the present because we’re not guaranteed tomorrow.”

“I don’t think God takes anyone too soon. I believe he was put on this earth for that exact amount of time… What if you were given a gift to live 1000 days? If you could live those days barefoot, red hair flying back on your tractor full speed ahead, if you could do that with your family around you, with no real care in the world — that’s a good way to live.”
