    Frist Art Museum Announces 2019 Schedule of Exhibitions

    Nashville’s Frist Art Museum is ready for the new year. In fact, the downtown art museum just revealed their 2019 schedule of events for each of the galleries.

    In the Ingram Gallery, the year starts with the companion shows Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, and Their Times: The Mellon Collection of French Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and A Sporting Vision: The Paul Mellon Collection of British Sporting Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

    These exhibitions offer a look into the Mellons’ strategy for collecting. Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection will show works from twentieth-century Mexican Art. The first exhibition exclusively devoted to Native female artists from North America is also in that gallery and is titled Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists.

    The upper-level galleries will show Dorothea Lange: Politics of SeeingMonsters & Myths: Surrealism and War in the 1930s and 1940s and Eric Carle’s Picture Books: Celebrating 50 Years of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

    Claudio Parmiggiani: Dematerialization, OSGEMEOS and Diana Al-Hadid will have works in the Gordon Contemporary Artists Project Gallery.

    The Conte Community Arts Gallery will host community-focused exhibitions. They’ll show Young Tennessee ArtistsConnect/Disconnect: Growth in the “It” City; and Nashville Walls.
