Donelson Community Yarn Bomb in Celebration of Earth Day

Smart Art + Craft Supplies, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering creativity and community through the power of art, is excited to announce the Donelson Community Yarn Bomb, a unique, hands-on event aimed at bringing the Donelson neighborhood together in celebration of Earth Day.

This creative community project will take place at four satellite locations across the Donelson area: Bagelshop, the Donelson Library, Edley’s BBQ Donelson, and Smart Art + Craft Supplies. Community members of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate by knitting, crocheting, or weaving to contribute to this collaborative art installation.

What is a Yarn Bomb?

A yarn bomb, also known as guerrilla knitting or yarn bombing, is a form of street art where public spaces are adorned with colorful knitted or crocheted pieces. It’s an exciting, temporary display of creativity that transforms everyday environments into vibrant, inviting spaces. In this case, the Donelson Community Yarn Bomb will decorate public areas and outdoor spaces across the area with handcrafted yarn art, showcasing the artistic talents of the local community.

The Goal: Celebrating Earth Day Through Sustainability, Creativity, and Accessibility

This year, the focus of the Donelson Community Yarn Bomb is to promote Earth Day and the values of sustainability. By using second-hand yarn, the project not only highlights creativity but also emphasizes environmental awareness and the importance of reusing and recycling creative materials.

Additionally, the event underscores Smart Art’s mission to make art and creativity accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background. How You Can Participate:

• Visit any of the participating locations: Bagleshop, the Donelson Library, Edley’s BBQ Donelson, or Smart Art + Craft Supplies.

• Pick up supplies: Smart Art + Craft Supplies will provide all necessary yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and upcycled weaving looms.

• Create a piece of art: Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, the event encourages everyone to join in and contribute to the installation.
