For this Banned Books Week (Oct. 1-7), an annual celebration of the freedom to read, the Banned Wagon is stopping at some of our favorite independent bookstores across the south and giving away hundreds of banned or challenged books to the community. Stops will include The Bookshop in Nashville.
Together they are taking the opportunity to amplify the fight against book bans and celebrate the people and places leading the ongoing fight against censorship in Nashville.
WHAT: The Banned Wagon provides hundreds of free copies of banned or challenged books to community members on their tour across the South. Guests will be able to select one book for free (while supplies last) and are then invited to browse a larger selection within the bookstore. In addition to the free copies of those books, tote bags, and helpful information that will help people fight censorship in their communities will be given.
WHO: Driven by Penguin Random House, The Freedom to Read Foundation, PEN America, and Little Free Library.
WHEN: Oct. 3 | 3:00-6:00 PM
WHERE: The Bookshop | 1043 West Eastland Ave. Nashville, TN 37206
WHY: Penguin Random House’s goal is to protect the freedom to read and spark conversations about the societal impact of book bans in our communities and get locals involved in the fight against censorship.
