Elton John and Brandi Carlile are joining forces for a new collaborative studio album, Who Believes In Angels?, arriving on April 4 via Interscope Records. They also dropped the album’s title track, giving fans a taste of what’s to come. You can listen to the single “Who Believes In Angels?” here.
The creative process behind Who Believes In Angels? was a true collaboration between John, Carlile, and producer Andrew Watt. The trio and long-time Elton collaborator Bernie Taupin crafted the album by blending Elton and Brandi-led songs. The team spent 20 days in Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studios, pushing each other’s boundaries to write and record fresh material from scratch. The album also features a world-class band, including Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Pino Palladino (Nine Inch Nails), and Josh Klinghoffer (Pearl Jam).
What makes this project especially unique is the never-before-shared behind-the-scenes footage of Elton’s writing and recording sessions, which has never been shared before. This rare glimpse into the creative process offers an unfiltered view of the challenges, breakthroughs, and raw emotions behind the music.
The album’s diversity is evident, with tracks that range from ballads and rock anthems to pop, Americana, and psychedelic sounds. Who Believes In Angels? marks a new chapter for Elton, with him describing the album as the start of “career Mark 2.” Brandi shares her awe of the experience, saying the album represents a “radical act” of seeking joy and triumph in a chaotic world.
The eponymous single, “Who Believes In Angels?,” is a perfect example of their synergy. Brandi’s lyrics and Elton’s piano blend seamlessly, with a powerful synth-driven chorus that brings to mind some of Elton’s iconic classics.
In addition, the album features “Never Too Late,” the Oscar-nominated track from the Disney+ documentary of the same name. This reflective, uplifting song brings a fitting close to the film about Elton’s incredible life and career.
