Dolly Parton just announced the world premiere of Dolly: An Original Musical. It will debut this summer at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on Belmont University’s campus in Nashville. This production, celebrating Parton’s incredible journey, will open its limited engagement with preview performances on July 18. An official opening night is slated for Aug.8. The musical will run through Aug. 17, offering fans a glimpse into the life of the icon before heading to Broadway in 2026.

Dolly: An Original Musical will feature an all-new score by Parton, showcasing some of her greatest hits along with new songs written for the show. Dolly Parton and Maria S. Schlatter penned the musical’s book. Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher will lead the creative team, ensuring an unforgettable theatrical experience.
This collaboration marks the first time the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts will host a world-premiere musical.
Dolly’s Creative Team + Collaboration with Belmont University
It’s produced by Dolly Parton, Danny Nozell, ATG Productions, and Gavin Kalin Productions. Casting directors Jim Carnahan and Carrie Gardner, along with 101 Productions, Ltd., will serve as the general manager for the musical. Dolly U: An Educational Experience with Dolly Parton Musical
In addition to the musical, Dolly Parton and Belmont University have teamed up to launch Dolly U, an immersive educational experience for students. Starting in the spring semester, Dolly U will offer students opportunities to participate in various aspects of the production, including marketing, brand partnerships, and merchandising. These hands-on experiences will provide students with course credit while allowing them to work alongside the production’s professional cast, creative team, and producing partners.
As part of the program, students have also been involved in The Search for Dolly, a national casting search to find the actress who will portray Parton on stage. The cast will be revealed shortly, adding yet another layer of excitement to this groundbreaking project.
