In early April, Nashville Noise went to Mercy Lounge to see Rogue Wave perform Asleep at Heaven’s Gate for its 10th anniversary. Dear Boy was an unexpected surprise, kickstarting the show with a high level of energy. Their mix of rock and pop filled the room with good vibes. Although we enjoyed the whole set, there was really something special about the new single, “Love Interest.” It was a standout from the set because it was more than a song, it was a feeling.
“‘Love Interest’ is a song written for our clumsy years. We wanted to write something recklessly optimistic about love and the joys of being out of your depth,” the band’s Ben Grey explains. “Pulp had a big influence on this song. I wasn’t old enough to have them on my high school walls but whenever I listen to them now, there’s a bizarre sense memory of something I never experienced. That’s a quality we were hoping to nuzzle up to while recording. Disco 2000 meet Disco 2018.”
Dear Boy recently shared the single’s bright video with fans. Baley Wynn directed it and Ryan Sanders did the post-production. The video is fun but it’s also a good representation of their live show. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see the band live yet, check out their official website for tour dates.
