Dakota Danielle’s debut EP, My Mother’s Daughter, drops tomorrow but we’ve got an audio exclusive of one of the tracks.
Danielle first broke into the country world with the release of her debut single, “One Church,” back in 2018. Fans and country music lovers fell in love with it and the Spotify numbers proved it. Both quickly and independently, the song garnered 54K streams on the service!
Now, she’s gearing up to release her debut EP. It drops on Friday (April 19) and the writing process has been a healing process for the 26-year-old. She lost her mother and dove into her songwriting to work through it. This self-penned project is a reflection of her past. It also touches on the changes that this devastating life event brought about.
“City” is one of our favorite songs on the EP. It’s an upbeat track that was inspired by Danielle’s small hometown of Teutopolis, Illinois.
“I got inspiration for this song when I made the big move to Nashville, Tennessee. Coming from a small town I was torn between loving the city and missing my hometown lifestyle. Nashville is four hours from where I grew up, making it a trip you can take in one day. Plus, St. Louis, Missouri is a city that is about an hour away from my hometown of Teutopolis,” she explains.
“This song came from thinking how much I’d love to be back in my hometown, yet it is always nice to have a change by getting a night out in the ‘City’! I wanted this song on my EP because I thought it would be a good upbeat song that everyone could relate/enjoy listening to. Plus, it brings back memories of first moving to Nashville, missing home and being so excited to explore the city.”
