Country music and southern rock music icon, Charlie Daniels, has died at 83 years old. According to a press release, the legendary musician died on Monday (July 6) at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage.
Doctors determined the cause of death was a hemorrhagic stroke. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the forthcoming days and we’ll update this post as we have that information.
According to a tweet from WKRN’s Josh Breslow, the Mt. Juliet Police Department will escort Daniels’ body to Sellars Funeral Home today (July 6). That will happen between 2:15 PM and 2:45 PM. Mourners can line up on Mt. Juliet Road from I-40 to the railroad tracks during this time.
Daniels was a singer, songwriter and talented multi-instrumentalist. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, the Musicians Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. He’s best known for his song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” among other classics.

I will always remember the look of sudden shock and delight on his face as he realized he would be in the Hall of Fame Rotunda for the ages. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends at this sad time.”
