Cassandra isn’t just carving out a space for herself in pop; she’s building a whole stage. With her latest release, “Prima Donna,” the rising artist brings an unexpected and electrifying blend of classical opera and modern pop to the forefront, showcasing what she calls “Popera.”
Rooted in her classical training and fearless creativity, “Prima Donna” immediately grabs your attention. From the hypnotic beat laid down by producer and co-writer Nikki Flores to the powerful lyrics about self-empowerment and identity, the track pulses with purpose. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t just play in the background; it commands your full attention. Cassandra’s inclusion of the iconic aria “Quando m’en vo” from La Bohème is more than just a nod to her operatic background. It’s a confident declaration of artistic identity.
“I wanted to create something that resonates with pop and classical music lovers,” she shares. “With ‘Prima Donna,’ I hope to inspire and entertain, showing that these genres can beautifully coexist.”
The music video amplifies everything the song stands for: confidence, individuality, and theatrical energy. It also has dynamic choreography, luxe visuals, and high-octane performances. Directed by Ben Oakes, the video features dancers from Milele Academy and choreography by Marissa Milele, whose collaborative synergy with Cassandra is palpable in every scene.
“This music video was electric from conception to the final product. Marissa Milele, my choreographer, and I worked on this choreography for weeks in advance with the dancers from Milele Academy, until we were ready for filming day,” Cassandra explains. “I’m so grateful for those girls. Their energy, love, and talent are incredible, and I’m grateful to call them my friends. Once we were ready, over a 15-hour day of filming, we captured the fun and power of ‘Prima Donna’ from the costumes, to the dancers, to the laughs in between shots. I’m so excited for you to get to feel that today.”
While Cassandra’s latest release leans unapologetically into mainstream pop, she hasn’t left her roots behind. The Nashville-based artist continues to balance both worlds (even recently performing with the Nashville Opera), further proving that genre doesn’t define her. “Prima Donna” does more than introduce Cassandra’s voice to a broader audience; it shows what’s possible when you refuse to be boxed in.
