Casey James had a really good day on Friday. News broke that he signed with APA Agency, he released a new album and he played his album release show at Nashville’s City Winery.

James released his highly-anticipated Strip it Down on Friday just hours before news broke that he’d also signed with APA. His fans had been buzzing about the upcoming independent album for months before its release. To celebrate, he played the new tunes at an album release party at City Winery.

After a beautiful set from local singer-songwriter Savannah Conley, James bounced on the stage with a glow of happiness. “I’m very excited about this evening,” he gushed. “Today’s a big day for me.”

It certainly was. He started the night with “Supernatural,” an infectious, upbeat track from the new record. It set the tone for the rest of the show and, judging by their response, the audience loved it. Their applause only grew when he announced his next song was “All I Need.”

James’ good mood combined with the exceptional band behind him made the night an exceptional one. On drums was Tom Hambridge, who also produced Strip it DownHe’s also worked with Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, BB King, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr and so many more. James admitted that while working on his album may not have been a career highlight for Hambridge, it was certainly a highlight for him.

Throughout the approximately 90 minute performance, James joked with the audience, introduced his band (who also played on the album) and told the stories behind the songs. One story in particular stood out among the rest. “Hard Times, Heartache and Scars” was a song that didn’t come easy. It took him 15 years to write and the result is his life story through song. He reminisced over the motorcycle accident that changed his life and “way of thinking” and eventually made him a better person. That accident also helped him pen one of his most meaningful songs.

James’ album release show at Nashville’s City Winery captivated the audience and ended with a standing ovation. It was a truly special night. Old fans left loving him more than ever and the new fans left with a copy of his record.
