Randy Travis Helps Carrie Underwood Celebrate 10 Years at the Opry

    "Ten years have flown by."

On Friday night, Carrie Underwood celebrated a big milestone. She celebrated 10 years as a Grand Ole Opry member — and Randy Travis joined the anniversary party.

On May 10, 2008, Underwood was inducted into the prestigious Opry family by Garth Brooks after her surprise invitation months before. In March of 2008, she got a huge surprise when she finished singing her No. 1 hit, “I Told You So.” The song was written and originally recorded by Travis, who was on hand and surprised her with the invite. Underwood was overwhelmed and shocked and Travis made the moment even better with a compliment he paid her about her performance.

“That’s a better performance than I will ever do of that song,” he told her at the time. “Thank you. I’m honored.”

On Friday night, she again performed that song and had another surprise visit by Travis. He was there to congratulate her on her big anniversary.

“Ten years have flown by,” she said onstage. “I knew from the moment God blessed me and let sing country music that I wanted to be a part of this place. Thank you for being here.”

Underwood isn’t the only one that’s had a Grand Ole Opry milestone recently. Last week, Charley Pride celebrated an impressive 25 years with the iconic venue.

The Opry celebrations will continue through June 5 when they’ll kick off CMA Music Fest. Underwood will play not one, but two shows at the Opry for that along with Terri Clark, Chris Janson and Ashley McBryde. That afternoon the music will start a little earlier with a free Opry Plaza Party featuring McBryde. Grab your tickets through the Opry’s official website or by calling (615) 871-OPRY.
