Cardi B is the latest celebrity on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke and the 14-minute video is an instant classic.
Corden invited Cardi B to help him get through traffic on his way to work for The Late Late Show with James Corden. The female rapper sits shotgun in Corden’s Range Rover in a mustard yellow suit with a sheer top. She looks flawless and excited to be on the segment.
Together, they sing “Bodak Yellow” which gets Cardi so fired up she picks up a water bottle as her new microphone. Eventually, she gets so into it that she rolls down the window and starts serenading the traffic-filled street. At one point, that includes a school yard full of kids. She reminds them to “stay in school,” “listen to your mom” and “go tell your moms to go buy my new single.”
While driving, Corden asks Cardi why she has so many nice cars but can’t drive. “To take pictures with,” she says as they both laugh. Corden offers to give the “Money” singer a driving lesson that includes driving through cones and metal flagpoles. You can imagine how well that went.
Despite her stress level probably getting a little high while running over cones and backing into poles, she told Corden what relaxes her. She watches ASMR videos (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). According to Urban Dictionary, ASMR videos “are meant to give the viewer a relaxing tingle at the back of their head and/or spine.” They usually include whispering, lip smacking or brushing sounds. Apparently, they relax the rapper and put her right to sleep.
Cardi B also mentions she recently played to a room full of kids during a bar mitzvah and, despite having to curse in front of them, she had a great time. “What’s the oldest audience you think you’ve ever played to?” Corden asks. “I don’t think I have… I mean, where can I perform for older people?”
Of course, Corden has the perfect place to introduce the “I Like It” singer to an older generation. He brings her to a senior center where they dance and sing “I Like It.” The crowd generally seems to enjoy the music and one man even asked the rapper on a date!
