There are few things better than chocolate and cocktails, except maybe both together. That’s exactly what you’ll get at Candy & Chocktails, a 21+ class at Goo Goo Clusters in downtown Nashville. As someone who loves playing tourist in my city, I found this to be the ultimate sweet escape and it was even more fun than I expected.
The experience was led by two powerhouse women: Sara Lehman, better known as Somm in the City, and Brena, Goo Goo Clusters’ in-house expert and all-around chocolate queen. From start to finish, they made the entire class feel interactive, welcoming, and downright entertaining.
We kicked things off with a decadent chocolate and spirits pairing. Goo Goo bonbons were matched with various Mozart Chocolate Liqueurs (an Austrian chocolate liqueur line that’s creamy and delicious). My favorite was the milk chocolate liqueur, but the best pairing award goes to the one featuring dark chocolate. It was rich, balanced, and surprisingly complex.
Next up: cocktails! We crafted our chocolate margaritas, which, honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. But the flavors worked so well together. It sweet, smooth, with just enough of a kick. This part of the class was super hands-on and even came with a few laughs thanks to Sara’s mixology tips and playful energy.
Then came the grand finale: making our own custom Goo Goo Clusters. The choices are endless, but here’s how mine turned out: I went with rice krispies for the perfect little crunch, milk chocolate as my shell (always a classic), and a couple of the “sticky” ingredients to bring it all together. Once we built our clusters, Brena took over to assemble and finish them off — and watching that process felt like a mini dessert show!
At the end, we walked away with a bag full of goodies: our custom-made treat, a branded apron (adorable!), and a cocktail shaker to make our chocolate margaritas at home.
If you’re looking for something unique to do in Nashville, whether for a girls’ night, date night, or just to treat yourself, Candy & Chocktails is a must. It’s indulgent, educational, and honestly just a blast. Bonus: you don’t have to be a chocolate expert to enjoy it, but you will leave feeling like one.
