Brown seems like an unlikely duet partner for pop singer Cabello but rumors were circling before the release. Somehow the two work together perfectly and Brown’s vocals actually improve the track (we didn’t think it could get any better). The anticipation builds leading up to Brown’s voice on the song. You won’t hear him until roughly the 1:45 mark.
Brown’s vocals still sound country on the pop song. He’s got a twang that adds a different element and it truly sounds like he was meant for this. People who aren’t familiar with him will realize just how buttery smooth his voice is. It’s a remix we can’t help but hit repeat on.
According to Billboard, leading up to the release she revealed the identity of her remix partner on Instagram. Although it appears the photo has since been deleted, she had some nice things to say about the country singer.
“When we were writing this song, Frank Dukes kept telling me ‘the melodies you’re doing make it feel like this could be a country song’! Ever since we finished writing it I always thought this could be reimagined with a country artist, and I heard Kane brown’s song “What Ifs” one day and freaked out! I was like he’s the PERFECT artist to do this with… I’m so so excited about this and hope you love it as much as I do and thank you, Kane, for your magical voice, this song tells a different story now.”
