Cage the Elephant Announce New Album, ‘Social Cues’

Cage the Elephant just announced the details for their fifth studio album. Social Cues drops April 19 on RCA Records and the first single is here.

This is the band’s follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning album, Tell Me I’m Pretty. Cage the Elephant shared more than just this exciting news, though. They also shared the first single from the new album, the deceptively upbeat, “Ready to Let Go.” Watch the new video for the single, directed by lead singer Matt Shulz, below.

Most of the music on Social Cues was written while Shultz’s relationship was ending. To make sense of the experience, he explored his psyche and created characters to tell different parts of his own story.

“It can be a vehicle to act out things that are hard to confront,” he explained. “When I’m creating, I try to put myself in a reactive state of improvisational thought. I let images just arise in my mind and wait for it to evoke an emotional response and then, when it does, I know I’m on to something. I was watching a lot of Fassbinder films, like World on a Wire and The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. I was thinking about their beauty coupled with the graphic surrealism of Aronofsky.”

The new record was produced by John Hill and was recorded at The Village Recording Studio in L.A. and also at Battle Tapes Recording, Blackbird Studio and Sound Emporium right here in Nashville. It was mixed by Tom Elmhirst and mastered by Randy Merrill in New York City. This is the band’s follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning album, Tell Me I’m Pretty.

Cage The Elephant will headline Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta on May 4 but more dates will be announced soon. Pre-order the new album by clicking on the album artwork below.
