There was no easing into Friday night’s BUSH show at FirstBank Amphitheater. The band launched straight into “Machinehead,” opening with pounding drums before the rest of the group stormed the stage. It was an unexpected (but fitting) way to kick off the final night of their Milk & Honey tour.

Frontman Gavin Rossdale immediately fed off the crowd’s energy, greeting the Nashville-area audience with, “You look f****** great.” And while Rossdale sounded a bit hoarse at points throughout the set, the band’s intensity never let up.

That was especially true on “The Chemicals Between Us,” one of the night’s standout performances. Rossdale’s vocals sounded especially strong on the track, while the band delivered a tight, polished performance that reminded everyone why BUSH’s catalog still hits just as hard live.

Throughout the evening, Rossdale made it clear how appreciative he was — not only of the fans, but of the tour itself and the bands who joined them along the way. “All things must change, but what a great tour we’ve had,” he told the crowd, reflecting on the final stop of the run.

Fans responded loudly to nearly every song, but “Everything Zen” earned one of the biggest reactions of the night. Later in the set, the mood shifted during “Glycerine,” when Rossdale asked fans to light up the venue with their phone flashlights. The crowd happily obliged, creating one of the more memorable visuals of the evening.

BUSH also worked fan-favorites like “Little Things” into the setlist, keeping the energy high deep into the night. And in a moment that pushed the show from entertaining to unforgettable, Rossdale eventually climbed down into the audience. He climbed not just near the barricade, but deep into the crowd. He spent time connecting directly with fans as the show neared its close.

For a tour-ending performance, BUSH delivered.
